I am the person people contact when they have a gardening question, or are looking for advice on growing better, or how to build a trellis, or why plants don’t look so good.
I can be that person for you as well.
I offer a variety of gardening services, all small scale, mostly a la carte. This ranges from one-time site visits for specific help to weekly visits to help you build your confidence to systems installation and advice to classes.
Mostly I help with edible gardens – that is my focus – but I can offer some assistance with ornamental gardens as well. I offer On Site Help, Systems Help and Classes.
On Site Help:
If you’re already vegetable gardening but have a number of questions or want to take it to the next level, I can help. We can set up a single visit or as often as you feel you’d like. Or if you simply want someone “on call” to answer pressing questions and show up as needed, we can arrange that as well.
I maintain low monthly fees with an a la carte menu of additional items. I will make recommendations for things to do/items to build, instructions for most of these items are freely available on this website. If you take care of that item yourself – no fee. If you want me to build it for you, I’ll charge you. It’s that simple and, for me, really is about helping you become the gardener you want to be.
There is a lot of hocus pocus out there and, just like this blog, I focus on the scientifically accurate responses so you don’t waste your time or money on snake oil.
My goal is to help others learn to take care of their own gardens: I’m happy to help for a time but that time is to work with you so you learn what needs to be done and how to do it. This usually lasts one to three years, as people choose to expand their skills (adding fruit trees, growing plants from seed, etc.) until you feel you’ve got the confidence to take it on by yourself, but there’s no annual requirement or fee, so fast learners can cancel at any time.
Systems Help:
Systems should make your life easier, save you money and allow you to spend more time enjoying your garden, rather than “tending” to it. I also offer help with:
- installing drip irrigation systems,
- building sturdy but storable trellis systems,
- compost systems,
- critter protection,
- mulching,
- shredding fall leaves
- and more.
There are many ways to handle all of these issues and I’ve tried many. I can help save you time and money by providing you with the systems that work best for you in your garden.
Classes:
I teach small classes on home composting and vegetable gardening. We can arrange a class for your civic group or your friends and neighbors.
I do NOT offer:
Allium Fields is not a full-service landscape design or installation company. There’s no trucks, no heavy machinery and no staff other than me. While we can work with you in your garden and help expand it, Allium Fields is not the company you call to transform your hill into garden steppes, do “mow and blow” services, or build a patio. We do, however, have some favorite vendors we can recommend for this.
Allium Fields is also not a company that’s going to show up weekly to weed and go away. I don’t like weeding any more than you do, so I set up organic, herbicide-free systems to prevent most weeds from coming back. If we work together on this system, neither of us will need to do much weeding. We both win!
Allium Fields really is a small fish in a big ocean, and we like it that way. I get to spend time with you, the time you need, so you only need to hire a gardener for a limited time. If you’re interested in bringing your garden to the next level, please contact me.
